The following remarks were given by Eunice Beardy from Split Lake at the Keeyask Generation Project Public Hearing Community Meeting: Tataskweyak Cree Nation.
“Those Hydro lines cause a lot of destruction, a lot of electricity coming out of there. And has Hydro ever provided anybody to do a study on our health? We have so many of our people, that have cancer. Different illnesses because of the water, because of those Hydro lines […] Hydro doesn’t take everything into consideration when they want to build a dam. All they see is the dollars. And like Janet said, we have to spend money on this water because ours is not clean enough to drink anymore, and that is so sad. Because of our babies, so many of our babies are starting to have rashes, they are afraid their skin is breaking out because of the water.” – Eunice Beardy, Split Lake
